Founded in 1939, the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus
has earned the reputation as a premiere music education and performance
organization of both classic boychoir repertoire as well as representing
the diversity of the American Southwest.
Musicianship and citizenship in a professional
atmosphere are the cornerstones of the program. The Chorus has
garnered accolades through performances at the White House, Lincoln
Center, Kennedy Center, the Beijing Institute of Culture, Russian
Glinka Cappella, Sydney Opera House, St. Peter’s Basilica,
and the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City with the Mormon Tabernacle
Choir.
Celebrating its 67th anniversary season, the
boy choristers from Tucson participate in one of America’s
longest lasting community choir programs. It is composed of 150
boys between the ages of eight and fourteen in three different
ensembles. The Chorus has received international acclaim through
concert tours, national television appearances, and numerous recordings,
as well as collaborations with major symphony orchestras and opera
companies. Appearances at national conventions of the American
Choral Directors Association and the Music Educators National
Conference have validated the choir’s musical excellence.
The Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus is dedicated
to providing boys an enriched educational experience through the
study and performance of choral music and in the pursuit of the
highest artistic quality. The Chorus endeavors to impart musical,
social, and leadership skills that build self-esteem and have
a sustaining impact on its members. Representing and serving the
community as an artistic and cultural resource is also fundamental
to the Chorus mission.
